Community Engagement

Community Engagement

MSU, community art, 2023

To ensure we can capture the voices within each community that we serve we take the following steps:

Community Input: We start by conducting a needs assessment to understand the community's interests, desires, and challenges. Engage with local residents, community organizations, and leaders to gather information about their aspirations and preferences for community art.

Inclusive and Participatory Planning: We involve community members in the planning stage of each public art project. We attend community meetings, workshops, or focus groups to gather ideas, solicit feedback, and develop a shared vision for the project. We work to ensure representation from diverse demographics, including different age groups, abilities, ethnicities, and socioeconomic backgrounds. Active participation helps to ensure that everyone feels welcome and valued.

Collaborative Design: We are all about collaboration and early on we establish an environment where different perspectives are valued and integrated into the design process.Collective creation allows for shared experiences and the co-creation of meaningful art, strengthening social bonds within the community.

Skill-building Workshops: We guide all participants through the creative process by teaching a variety of techniques and skills to community members, allowing them to develop their artistic abilities and contribute to the project.

Volunteer Opportunities: There are numerous volunteer opportunities that allow community members to actively participate in the creation of the artwork. The support and dedication of our volunteers is vital to the success of each project.

Public Art Installations: Every public art installation is a gift to the public and serves to beautify public spaces and reflects the community's identity, history, or values.

Community Events and Celebrations: At the culmination of each public art project there will be a celebration that brings the community together to recognize the contributions of the many hands that came together to make something spectacular.
